The ACU MXGB Youth National motocross championship roared into Culham for Round 4 over the 15 and 16 August 2026 weekend, delivering some of the most punishing racing of the season. Scorching summer heat and rapidly deteriorating track conditions set the stage for a weekend of pure endurance. With championship points critical at this stage of the season, all eyes were on the NORA CRS team riders to see how they would handle the baking Oxfordshire hillside. For NORA CRS rider Rafe Symons, the weekend would prove to be a masterclass in resilience, defined by bitter mechanical misfortune and an explosive Sunday motocross comeback.

The youth motocross action commenced on Saturday morning with timed qualifying, where Symons clocked the 11th fastest time on a rapidly drying circuit. As the gates dropped for Race 1, Symons battled hard out of the gate, avoiding early chaos to position himself on the edge of the top ten. Finding a smooth rhythm on the baking clay, he fought through a haze of blinding dust to secure a solid 11th place finish.
Race 2, however, brought immediate heartbreak for the NORA CRS Team Rider. After a decent start, Symons felt his machine handling erratically just a few laps into the moto. A sharp stone had pierced his tyre, leaving him with an early rear puncture. Refusing to pull into the mechanics area to retire, Symons put on a display of pure determination. Nursing an unstable bike over brutal, square-edged bumps, he dragged his machine across the finish line in 19th place to salvage invaluable championship points.

Sunday greeted the riders with even higher temperatures, turning the Culham motocross circuit into a brutal, dry, and rough dust bowl. In Race 3, Symons showed no mental hangover from Saturday’s bad luck. He executed a clean start and traded paint with the mid-pack, showing excellent fitness to match his Saturday benchmark with another fierce 11th place finish.
The final moto of the weekend, Race 4, was Symons’ crowning achievement. Nailing his best start of the weekend, he emerged from the first turn in 7th place, he briefly moved into 6th position in lap 3, but did not want to jeopardize a fall and settled into 7th place with ease, he ate up the laps and crossed the line in a well deserved P7.

“Saturday was incredibly frustrating with the puncture in race two, as I felt I had the pace for much more,” Symons reflected after the final moto. “The Culham track was so dry, rough, and blind with the dust, but I just kept my head down. Ending the weekend with 7th in the final race proves the speed is there. We will take the positives, learn from the tough moments, and build on this momentum for the next round of the MXGB Youth National.”
Symons’ performance at Culham perfectly embodied the NORA CRS team spirit—unyielding in the face of adversity and blindingly fast when it counts.
