Frocester Flyer: Ronnie Morgan Claims Overall Glory!

This weekend was a single day meeting with Dursley MX Club at Frocester for Round 8 of their Club Championship. I’m not really a big fan of this track but as my dad says if there a track you don’t like we will ride it more until you do like it.

For practice and racing the Big Wheels and Small Wheels were in together which I quite like as it gives you more competition and more opportunities to improve. It had been raining quite a lot throughout the night and rain was forecast on and off all day but the track wasn’t looking too bad. I was the second group out in the block.

Practice went well for me, the track was still smooth and wet on the surface but I was feeling comfortable on the bike and finished 3rd.

Not the best of starts in race one was about 6th around the first corner but by the end of the first lap I had worked my way into second which wasn’t easy as the track was very one line. As the leader had got the holeshot he had a bit of a gap but he was in my sights and i was chasing him down. It seemed every time I had a chance to take the lead back markers were there making it impossible. So I finished P2 only 0.6 behind the leader.

Race 2 and I was going for the holeshot….. which i got. It was raining for this race but I felt in control and set the pace. I didn’t make any mistakes even though I had the pressure of a Big Wheel 85cc not far behind me for most of the race. I managed to pull away on the last couple of laps and took the chequered flag.

Final race of the day and I was feeling good which helped me take my second holeshot of the day but I had a BW85cc hot on my rear wheel. I managed to hold him off for a few laps but he ended up getting past me. I wasn’t going to give up, I tried to get my position back a few times but back markers had come into play again and there was a few yellow flags about as well. I finished P2 but P1 in the SW85cc. My results were P2, P1, P2 combined and in the SW P2, P1, P1 giving me P1 overall.
