Masterclass in Resilience defined Rafe’s Little Silver weekend

Devonshire dust, red flags, and a masterclass in resilience defined Round 5 of the Plews British Masters at Little Silver for NORA CRS rider Rafe Symons. Coming off an injury layoff and unfamiliar with the Devon circuit, Symons faced blistering temperatures, heavy watering trucks, and a rollercoaster of on-track drama.

Qualifying: Dropping the Hammer Late

Faced with a heavily watered, greasy track designed to combat the predicted heatwave, Symons played the waiting game. As the mud dried out, he dropped a scorching flyer on his very last lap to snatch P10, proving the raw speed was there from the outset.

Race 1: The Up-Hill Climb

  • The Start: A sluggish launch left Symons buried deep in the pack at P19.
  • The Recovery: On a single-line track where passing felt impossible, he chipped away, hitting his fastest lap on Lap 5.
  • The Finish: Crossed the line in P16. Datalogging later revealed top-10 pace—if only he had nailed the start.

Race 2: In the Zone

  • The Start: Much better. Symons locked into P10 by Lap 2.
  • The Charge: Riding with supreme confidence and consistency, he picked off rivals on consecutive laps to move into P9, then P8.
  • The Finish: A brilliant, well-deserved P8 finish to prove he firmly belongs at the sharp end of the grid.

Race 3: Denied by the Red Flag

  • The Start: A chaotic mid-pack launch left him in P13.
  • The Incident: After executing a clinical pass for P12, the rider directly ahead crashed. With nowhere to go, Symons hit the deck, dropping to P15.
  • The Twist: Just as he began fighting back, a red flag for an injured rider halted the race early, freezing Symons in P15 and robbing him of a comeback.

Race 4: Gravity Wins

  • The Start: Fighting hard in P11 by Lap 2 and looking safe for a strong points haul.
  • The Incident: The front end washed out in a slick corner, relegating him to P19. A subsequent tip-over pushed him further back to P22.
  • The Finish: Gritting his teeth, Symons mounted a furious two-lap charge to rescue P20 at the flag.

The Verdict

A fighting P15 overall for the weekend. While the point standings might not show it, the raw speed, top-10 lap times, and spectacular Race 2 performance prove that when lady luck cooperates, Symons is a genuine front-runner.
