We decided to enter as a wildcard for Severn Valley MXC and Cotswold Youth & AMX Club joint meeting at Walterstone motocross track last weekend. My Dad said I would have to ride my 65cc in the SW85cc class because we need to weed out some gremlins on the bike before this coming weekend’s Plews National Championship at Schoolhouse.
We knew this would add more challenges for Ronnie racing in this class on his 65cc but we said to try and treat it as a testing weekend.
Practice & Qualifying went ok, managed to get second fastest lap time but the bike wasn’t feeling right, so we made some adjustments before the first race.
First race I didn’t get the best of starts I was about 8th around the first corner but I got my head down and pushed my way through. On the second lap I worked my way to 3rd and was gaining on the front two. My lap times were constant but I finished the race in 3rd.
The second race I was 5th off the start but it wasn’t long into the race when I started having bike issues in certain areas on the track, I was losing power intermittently. I finished in 6th place in this race and I was not happy at all. My dad worked on the bike checking the electrical side of thing before the final race of the day. We replaced the coil which made the bike a lot better.
Last race of the day had a better start. I battled putting pressure on the leaders and they both made mistakes which allowed me to take the lead for two laps but I was heart broken when I was out powered up the finish line hill finishing in a agonisingly close second place. I was so angry and really wanted to be on my 85cc.
On the Second day of racing my dad swapped the carb as I was having bogging issues when landing off the jumps. My starts were much the same getting out powered up the start straight so I was having to make up for that pushing hard into and through the corners. My results for the day were P2, P3 and P3. I was frustrated at the end of the day as I wished I was on my 85cc. My overall for the weekend was third!
