The weekend of August 31st and September 1st saw the third annual NORA Motorsport Team Event take place at Landrake Moto Parc in Cornwall. Representing Cotswold Youth and AMX in the youth class was Jack Evans who had an outstanding weekend of racing to end the event in third on the podium.
Here is how the weekend went for Jack.
“A real privilege to be picked for the event, with the top riders from all the NORA clubs in the country. Saturday qualifying I got down to the holding pen, which was already stacked with riders. I struggled with riders getting in my way and on my quickest lap, I went off the track, losing lots of time and qualified in P7, but knew I had loads more to give in the race.”
“Race 1 – I had a decent start. Made a pass on the first lap to get into 2nd, but was passed back. Stayed in 3rd place for the rest of the race. Next up was race 2 and had a great start, pulled my first holeshot in a while. Led the race for a lap, but I made a mistake in the rollers, nearly toppled and was passed back. Made a few mistakes and drifted back from the leaders. Not deterred, I managed to pull back a lot of time in the last lap. I could have done with a longer race, but finished in 2nd which I was happy with.”
“Sunday Race 1 – I had a terrible start. Was in 30th position, so really had my work cut out for me. I pushed really hard throughout the race, trying to make passes. Managed to get back to P9, but I was annoyed with myself because the start was so bad and there wasn’t enough time in the race to get a better position. Race 2 – Much better start. Was in 3rd off the start and made a pass around the finish line corner to get into 2nd place. Slightly over jumped in the middle and cross rutted, meaning that I was overtaken by the rider behind. I made a few more mistakes and first two riders pulled away. By the last lap though, I brought the gap to 2nd to within a second and went over the finish line in 3rd place, 0.6 of a second behind 2nd place and 4 seconds behind the leader.”
