Mitch Conway took to Culham with Cotswolds and walked away with 5th Overall!

Cotswolds Youth & Amateur MX Club Championship at Culham MX Park 13th & 14th April. This weekend, my objectives were to correct my intense thirst issues that I had at Oakhanger & get over the repetitive problems that I always seem to have at Culham.

Day 1 Saturday – I had a steady practice, with the 5th fastest time of 2.08 & no issues.

Race 1 – I had a really poor gate pick of 32, but that doesn`t really matter much at Culham, as it`s a good drag race from the start gate to the first corner. I managed to pull through the pack & eventually finish 7th behind Jack Evans.

Race 2 – With the better gate pick, I had a good start and continued to lap consistently, finishing one place higher in 6th.

Race 3 – Was my best race, with a good start & lap times more in touch with the riders in front of me & due to a crash & DNF by Kyron Caron, the track was a lot rougher, but it seemed to suit me & I finished in 4th place.

This meant that I got 3rd overall for Saturday`s races, due to my consistency. I also felt a lot better with my thirst problem, due the Muscle Doctor, Surge product, which really helped me.

Day 2 Sunday.
Race 1 – My worst race of the weekend, as I couldn`t get a decent start & find my flow, coming home in 9th place, having tweaked my knee in the deep ruts, which dropped me out of contention. Also there were a few fast riders that had entered for the Sunday round only, such as the South African, Wesley McGavin, who was adapting well to the rough Culham conditions.

Race 2 – I managed to sort my knee out & get my head together for the second race & pulled a 6th place finish, despite feeling not at my best.

Race 3 – Another poor start, but I managed to pull back a few places back, going into the uphill step up jump & then settled into a good rhythm, bringing home another 6th place finish.
This allowed me to take 5th overall for the weekend, eventually pipping Jack Evans by 1 point & only being 3 points off 4th overall. The battles with Jack, all weekend were great & I have a few lessons to learn, moving forward.

What have I learnt from the weekend :-
1. I`ve addressed the issue with my intense thirst, using Muscle Doctor, Surge, which replaces lost electrolytes.
2. I`ve overcome my overall doubts with the Culham track & can`t wait to ride it again for the NORA Cup round.

Many thanks again to the NORA CRS Development Team & all of the associated team sponsors.
