There is only one word to sum up this weekend and that is WOW! This weekend, for the first time, I took on the Weston Beach Race. For those who don’t know, this is an endurance race that takes place on the Weston-super-Mare beach front full of deep sand dunes and the iconic long straight against the waves.

I had no expectations going into this race, the first time doing an hour and a half race in the deep sand so it was all about experience.

The start was utterly crazy like nothing I’ve ever seen before, I got a fairly good start coming round mid pack to the start fence. My first trip up the straight was the most exhilarating thing I’ve ever done.

Those dunes were something else and for the first 2 laps I got stuck in the sand A LOT but I found my flow after that point. Half way through I was sitting in 16th which was incredible. Then, 30 minutes to go, the bike decided to give up, dad noticed some steam so told me to pit but on my way back round the bike overheated and ceased meaning my race was over. Absolutely gutted!

My final final position was 28th in the Small Wheels. It was honestly the most fun race I’ve ever competed in, it was an unforgettable experience and now we know how it works, we will be hoping for a much better result when I compete again next year.

I want to say a massive thank you to the NORA team who came to support me and to Coach Robb for all the advice and guidance on how to get through the race. Couldn’t have done it without you. Weston. What a race!
