Top step on the podium at Foxhill for Angelica

It were a busy weekend for Angelica over the May Bank holiday with competing in Rounds 6 & 7 of the Hampshire Motocross Club Championship at Foxhill on Saturday and Sunday, then make the trip south to Landrake Moto Parc for the first round of the NORA92 British Cup.

After two days of racing and a 2nd overall on Saturday for Round 6, it was the icing on the cake on Sunday afternoon when Angelica walked away with 1st overall for Round 7.

Read how the two days went for Angelica below.

An exciting weekend was planned for this weekend with rounds 6 and 7 of Hampshire taking place at Foxhills then round 1 of the NORA92 British Cup at Landrake.

Foxhills isn’t a track I ride much, I haven’t been there since the Bridgestone on the 65cc! There has been a lot of work done to the track and it was quite different from the last time I was there 3 years ago. We were fully prepared for a warm weekend with the weather being so hot in the run up to the event. We didn’t need to worry about that, the wind was high and the sun only occasionally came out.

Saturday

Qualify – No Result

Unfortunately my transponder wasn’t being picked up for qualifying so the times were not recorded and I didn’t place for Qualify which meant I was starting from the back of the pack for the day.

Race 1 – P2

Race 1 was a really good race, I was feeling really good and really gelled with the track. I felt strong and it showed in my race. I have been training hard on corners and jumps recently with my dad and that is starting to come through in my racing.

Race 2 – P2

My start wasn’t so great for this race, I got squeezed on the way to the second corner so started the race further back. I had to work to get back to second because they are mixed races. I had a lot of Big Wheels to pass before I got to the front pack but I made it back to second and I was pushing down to the front of the pack!

Race 3 – P2

Better start this time, I led for the first 2 laps of the race but then 1st got past and I didn’t have enough speed to catch him. I stayed on his tail for the whole race and made sure I kept up the speed right to the end of the race.

Saturday Overall – P2

This was my first ever second overall against the boys, I have had lots of 3rd places but the top 2 steps have always been a bit elusive. I was absolutely buzzing and felt amazing. I have been working so hard in the background so i felt so happy at the end of this race.

Sunday

Qualify – P15 (mixed with BW)

What a contrast to the day before! The track was really really wet after being heavily watered overnight. I decided I wanted to tumble in the mud… A LOT. I fell off on the top of one of the hills then slipped right to the bottom in 3 stages so I was down for a long time! I came over the line and there were 10 seconds left on the clock so I kept going and made sure I put in a decent time, the problem was there were people all over the track so couldn’t get a clear run. I’m just happy I didn’t end up with the 8 minute lap time I put in for my first lap.

Race 1 – 4th

What can only be described as an actual disaster! I wasn’t thinking properly, stalled it in a corner and then couldn’t get the bike going, turned the choke on to get it going and forgot to turn it off. By the time I got going my sister had just got past me, we train together she knows how to keep me behind her and she did an epic job at doing it in the race. It meant we both pushed forward and we both got up to 5th & 6th, I passed her after 2 laps and made 2 more passes to get up to 4th but its all I could do.

Race 2 – 1st

After the last race I had a point to prove. I needed to make sure I kept up with the top pack. On the 3rd lap, 1st place went down so when I went past I made sure I kept the momentum, kept pushing and held on to the last lap. I took my first race win in a mixed class I’ve ever taken. The feeling of winning a race is unreal! Now I’ve had it once I want more.

Race 3 – 2nd

My start in this race was awful! I came round 3 from the back…. I wanted that win. I pushed right from the start and made sure 1st was in sight the whole race and I finished 10 seconds behind him which was the closest I have come. It’s spurred me on to make sure I keep pushing and I will win more races this year!

Sunday overall – 1st

FIRST OVERALL! After my second on Saturday I was on such a high but wow. The high of winning the overall is something else. I can’t believe I’ve finally done it and pulled it all together. I’ll keep working and make sure that I can get more of those in the bag this year.
