This weekend we took to a completely new track, Hewelsfield for Round 4 of the Southerly MXC Championship.
As soon as I saw the track it was like it was made for me! Natural track, off camber corners and lots and lots of dust berms for me to play with. It was so warm but thanks to my vented Motoloko top I was cool all day.
Race 1 – 8th
Unfortunately the water source for the track was half an hour away so it took an hour for the bowser to get back meaning whoever was waiting on the line got the wet track and for race 1 it was us! The track turned to ice. Second lap I dropped it and every time I got going I dropped it again. I kept pushing the boundaries to get round everyone and get my results but unfortunately ran out of time so came across the line in 8th.
Race 2 – 3rd
Wow what a contrast. This race was so much fun I loved every second. Start was great coming round the corner in the top 5 and I pushed right from the first lap to the last, spent most of the race racing with the big wheels. I came off the track covered from head to toe in dust but it was worth it for 3rd in the small wheels and 7th against the BW/SW combined. My best result at Southerly to date.
Race 3 – 2nd
Another great start coming round the corner top 5 again and knew I was going to give everything to this one. I raced as hard as I could for the whole race making sure I got past as many BW riders as I could. In the end I finished 2nd which absolutely blew me away! Best result at Southerly by far buzzing.
Overall – 3rd
MY FIRST PODIUM WITH SOUTHERLY !!!
Honestly struggling to put the words together for this one. I have been working so hard on sorting out my head and keeping away the anxiety plus pushing hard on my training in the gym and my technique on the track. It really feels like it’s pulling together now I am absolutely buzzing having the best time racing my bike.
To me, a podium at Southerly feels like a win! Those boys are fast! And not afraid to throw me around so they’re helping me get tough and fast for sure.
Next weekend is with Hampshire at Swanmore and I can’t wait.
