Six Races, One Goal: Progress at Monster Mountain for Reuben

Rounds 7 and 8 of the Cotswold Youth & AMX Club Championship headed to Monster Mountain last weekend for a joint meeting with Severn Valley. Team Reuben made the trip down south to continue his battle in the Cotswold Club Championship. Hear how the weekend went for Reuben below.

This weekend we travelled to Monster Mountain for rounds 7 and 8 of the Cotswold Championship. I was really looking forward to getting to ride the track as it would be my first time racing here. I went out for practice and just took my time trying to take as much in as possible. I really wanted a good race and wanted to take my time so I could learn as much as I could now before race came.

Round 7

Race 1 – I got a decent start it was good to still be in the group after the first few corners I did drift back but felt I had something there learning each lap and finished 18th.

Race 2 – I tried to push myself some more getting into the corners faster, still learning the track. I made a couple of mistakes and nearly over ran on a couple of the corners and found myself in the wrong gear twice but I kept pushing and finished 17th.

Race 3 – I didn’t get the best of starts but managed to get back in the group. I had a few wobbles pushing trying to get past a rider and was struggling to make the pass but eventually getting past and finished 18th.

Round 8

Race 1 – After a lot of rain through the night the track was wet but it took it well. It wasn’t the best of starts and found it hard to find my way through the group getting pushed back and struggling to hold position and found myself in 20th which I eventually finished.

Race 2 – After some pointers from my team mate Jesse on where I could improve, we were off. I got a great start and felt fast. I was getting quicker and first few laps I felt I was doing great but then made a mistake going too fast into a corner and took it far too wide then found myself hitting the wrong gear coming out the other side and I finished 19th.

Race 3 – This was the last race of the weekend I had to get a better result. I set a target and I went for it straight out the gate and what a start! I came out the second corner and was in 12th I was feeling really good track was brilliant and I felt confident. I lost a few positions down the bottom end of the track but I wasn’t going to loose anymore. I was pushing as hard as I could I knew if I could hold it and keep my cool I was in for a good result and I held on for 16th.

I cannot wait to go back to Monster Mountain I loved the track and it’s now one of my favourites. Next round Rushwick!
