Slice of podium pie on Wednesday 25th June for Rafe Symons who attended the first round of the Monster Masters at Monster Mountain MX in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.
The track owners are running a three round series for kids, adults and pro riders and it did not disappoint, Rafe was breathing the fresh mountain air with Jeffrey Herlings, Tommy Seale, Conrad Mews and Jamie Carpenter.

The all day event saw 2 practice sessions, a qualifying session and 2 races. So lots of bike time on the expertly prepped track, plus the chance to watch the pros race. The event was well attended by Spectators who cheered on the children and pros.
The big wheels and small wheels were combined. Rafe qualified in second place which meant he had a good gate pick for racing.
Race 1 – You forget how long the race start straight is at Monster Mountain, the riders gained some serious speed down the start straight and around the long sweeping corner. A good start saw Rafe with the leading riders and he quickly moved up into 1st place. Rafe settled into his stride and hit the big jumps pulling away from the other riders, good corner speed and a great consistent ride, meant Rafe won his Race.
Race 2 – Hoping to repeat the success of the first Race, Rafe got another cracking start and settled into his rhythm. Hitting the big jumps and enjoying the ride, when a momentary lapse in concentration, caused Rafe to drop the bike. The front end seemed to lose traction, causing the bike to hit the deck. Fortunately, Rafe had created a big gap between the riders behind him, so by the time he was up and got the bike going again, he only lost 2 places. Crossing the line in 3rd place, meant Rafe was tied on points with the first place rider.

All in all, the results are coming through and are being noticed by his peers, special thanks to the continued sport of NORA CRS and the team sponsors.
What an amazing event and we have already booked in for Round 2!
