Sunshine to Slop: Reuben’s Ride at Brookthorpe

You couldn’t write it, last Sunday at Brookthorpe who would have thought the first moto would have been perfect track conditions but by the time riders lined up for their second moto, the track was a mudder after a heavy downpours and riders struggling to get around.

Reuben McNally one of our Small Wheel 85cc riders was at Brookthorpe for the tenth round of the Cotswold Youth & AMX Club Championship. Read all about his day below.

Sunday we headed down to Brookthorpe for Round 10 of the Cotswolds Club Championship, a track I have never ridden. I was excited as I do like to test myself at new tracks and see what they have to offer.

We headed down Sunday morning and the weather looked like it was set to be a great day, warm and sunny. I went out for practice and I took it steady as I’d never ridden this track and I wanted to take as much in as possible. I would of liked another lap or two, but I felt confident and the track was in great condition and I was ready to race.

Race 1 – I didn’t get the best of starts and ended up way back. I tried to push on through the pack but struggled to get into a good flow. I knew I could do better and I came back 18th.

Race 2 – I was ready! I’d had a chat with my team mate Jesse and I took some good tips and best lines to take. Well, when we were on the line the heavens opened and what a downpour! The rain stopped, we were ready, very wet but good to go. The gate dropped and I got a mega start! I was in 5th round the 2nd corner and I was on it but wow the track conditions were so different. I started to loose all traction and struggling to stay on the bike and then I was on the floor. I struggled to get back on, the mud was sticking to my boots, my bike was so heavy but I got round and finished the race in 14th.

I don’t think I have seen two completely different track conditions over the two races.

Looking forward to Clearwell next weekend. I just love being out on the bike and improving all the time.
