Setback at Clearwell, Comeback Loading: Reuben Takes 7th Before Injury

Clearwell was set to be a great days racing for Reuben in the Cotswold Youth & AMX Club Championship on Sunday 13th July, however following a crash on the start of the third moto where another rider took the front end of Reuben’s bike out has resulted in Reuben now being side lined due to injury for up to 6 weeks. Read how the day went from Reuben’s perspective below.

It’s that time again and we are ready to head down to Clearwell. Another new venue for me, we are getting about! I was super excited. The Championship round was Sunday but we were there for practice on Saturday. I got some good laps in and really liked the track. It was another super hot weekend and after some great laps on the Saturday I was really excited and eager to get going, feeling confident for some good results.

Sunday we were up and ready for practice. The day was heating up with plenty of fluids on board I was ready to race.

Race 1 – Wow the gate dropped and I got a great start. The track was tight but I was right up there! Amazed myself but I had to keep going 3rd in 85SW on lap 1. I kept pushing trying to hold my position. I was passed by a few Big wheel riders which slowed me a little and cost me as I lost a few places to a few SW riders but the track was great, I was comfortable and I just wanted to bring it home. I finished 6th.

Race 2 – After the last race confidence was high. I was on the gate and we were off to another great start. I was round the first corner and into the straight coming back down the hill. I knew I had a good position and I pushed as best as I could. I was in great rhythm and felt great. Although, it was so hot I was keeping consistent with my lap times when a back marker stopped in front of me and I lost some time and a place. Bringing it home in 8th.

Race 3 – Well this race started in the worst possible way. The gate dropped and I was off when out of nowhere I was down! A rider had come across me and took out my front wheel. I was in so much pain in my left hand I was down for a while (I think all the other riders had completed a lap) the medics came to check me out and I just wanted to finish the race. I could move my hand but it did hurt. I got back on the bike and set off, my bars were bent, I was trying hard and I knew I was slow but I finished.

Took overall 7th for the weekend. I was super happy with this as I felt I got a good result after an awful last race. When we arrived home my hand started to feel more painful and had swollen so my mum took me to A&E. The X-Ray showed my hand is fractured so I now have a pot on.

This is awful news and leaves me out for up to 6 weeks, but I will be back and be back stronger.
