Ronnie delivered a determined performance at the opening round of the MXGB Youth ACU British Motocross Championship at FatCat, battling through tough conditions and a stacked field to secure an impressive 9th overall. Showing pace, consistency, and growing confidence across the motos, he put together a solid weekend of racing that highlights his continued progress.

This weekend was the first round of the MX GB Youth British Motocross Championship at Fat Cats Sand track. For this Championship I’m racing in the 65cc class and this year the class seems more stacked then other years so you definitely need to bring your a game with the speed that’s in the 65 class.
The 65 were out last for Qualifying and Racing for the two days. We had start practice just before Qualification, I managed to get some good starts in. We had two laps of practice before the qualifying clock started and the track was already pretty rough. The first lap of qualification was my fastest lap time as i just couldn’t seem to get another clean run in which was disappointing and something I need to work on having said that from 10th to 5th place was close with only a second in total between those 5 positions. I got 9th out of 43 so that was my gate pick for the weekend which I know I could of done better.
Race 1 – Was nearly 2 hours behind schedule because of the amount of red flags and a couple of re-starts, the track at this point already seemed very rough with some deep ruts. I was calm in parc ferme but keen to get my first race done, I had a ok start and was feeling good on the bike I was in 10th on the second lap and by lap four I got to 7th . The track was very tricky in places and because of this i had to make some different line choices. I held 7th place for the last 4 laps but my lap times was good enough to of been in 5th.
Half way threw the second block on Saturday they decided to stop the racing and finish the remaining races first thing Sunday as there had been so many red flags due to the condition of the track which had pushed the time back even more and the sun was sitting too low that it was deemed to unsafe.

Day two of racing and I was third out as we needed to complete race 2 from yesterday so the track was pretty smooth which would mean the pace would be faster. I got out the gate ok but as i got to the first corner someone fell right in front of me and i was too close to do anything, I stayed upright but had to pull my bike off of his back wheel so I was about 30th around the first corner. I had my work cut of for me so i got my racing head in the game and made my was threw the pack, on lap two I was 18th then lap five I was p12 and right behind 11th 10th and 9th but couldn’t pass them for two laps because of waving yellow flags. last lap flag went out so didn’t have long to make a pass but is was not meant to be as my Bike started to bog and loose power I just had to hold on and hope to make it to the finish line which I did but lost two place due to no fault of my own.
Time for race 3 and my dad hadn’t stopped trying to get my bike running at one point it was looking like I would have a DNS with no spare bike we up against it. It was either start the race with a poorly bike and hope it last the whole race or go home early so out I went to give it my best shot. Had a better start and got to the first corner in 4th by some miracle. I held 8th for three laps but as the bike was getting hotter it was trying to cut out on me and bogging like crazy each lap it was getting worse and I was slowly getting piped off when the last lap flag came out I was in 11th and praying the bike had I more in it. The corner before the finish I got passed again and finished the race in 12th which isn’t great but could of been worse. The first race of the last block was out and then it was red flagged and Air Ambulance was called. So we had some extra time to work on the bike, we finally found the problems and managed to lend a part we didn’t have so the bike was good to go.

Unfortunately the rest of the meeting was cancelled to the injured rider and the time of day which was totally understandable. I would like to wish all injured riders a speedy recovery.
