Digging Deep at Hawkstone for Ollie

Last weekend I travelled to Hawkstone Park to race the second round of the Plews Tyres British Masters.

After having a pretty scary crash on my first lap of qualifying at FatCats and not racing that weekend, I felt pretty nervous. I’m racing in the fast MXY2 group and this would be my first time going up…and down Hawkstone Hill.

The last group out, we went out for qualifying and it was straight up the hill. I know I didn’t push myself because of my nerves and qualified 28th.

Race one, not a good start. I stumbled off the concrete start and came around the first corner second to last. After a couple of steady laps and passing a few riders I finished in 24th. I was disappointed with myself as I was aiming for top 20.

Second race and the last race of the day. I got a much better start, coming around the first corner mid pack. I started to gain confidence, having a good battle in laps 3 and 4. The ruts were really deep, I dropped it in a corner and a lost a couple of places. It was too late to catch those that had past me and I finished 25th.

Sunday and race 3, I struggled to get off the start and was dead last around the first corner.  I managed to gain a couple of places and finished 27th but found the track difficult and couldn’t find my rhythm.

Not my best weekend but it was good practice for when we go there for the NORA92 British Cup.

My next race will be at Landrake for the NORA92 British Cup, I’m really looking forward to that.
