From Gate Drop to Podium: Joyner Shines with P3 Finish

This weekend I headed to a new track I have never been to before, RHL raceway for the 5th round of Southerly MXC Championship. The track seemed old school, a natural track with not many jumps. I walked it the evening before with dad to see what I was working with.

Race morning – Practice I went out and the first corner I fell, where lots ended up falling after me, but I quickly got back on and felt comfy for the rest of it, feeling ready and more confident for the race.

Race 1- Straight out of the gate and first to the corner. Holeshot! Quite quickly after P1 & P2 passed me but I always had them in sight, pushing hard and keeping with second place I finished in 3rd. Happy with knowing I pushed until the end and stayed on the bike.

Race 2 – Not the best start, but got 3rd to the corner. The leader crashed so I was in second place with P1 in sight. I added the pressure and took past him on lap 2 going up the hill. Leading the race I made a nice gap for myself, the cheers from friends and family helped me push to the end and I crossed the line in 1st feeing proud of myself!

Race 3 – Last race of the day and I shot out of the gate again getting another holeshot, my second one of the weekend. I sat in first leading the way, but team mate Seb got me just before the table top. I had him in sight the whole race, pushing for my P2 position but knowing that I had someone on my tail the whole time. I wasn’t going to give up, last lap flag went out and I knew I was nearly home, still sitting in P2. Seb still in sight and back markers making it difficult, I took the wrong rut trying to pass two back markers, but that was just my luck. I chose the wrong rut and P3 took me with half a lap to go. I finished the line in 3rd, but very happy with my weekend knowing I worked hard, fought for my positions and never gave up! Very happy with 3rd overall.
