This Weekend was Round 3 of The Plews Tyres British Masters at Wroxton racing in the 65cc class. On Wednesday I went out practicing on the 65 as its been a month since I was last on it and if I’m being honest I’m finding it hard keep jumping back and forth from 85cc to 65cc as I can’t just concentrate on one bike. It was forecast to be a hot weekend and the weather man got that right it was a scorcher which was going to set some new challenges when racing.
The 65cc class was scheduled to be last out all weekend so I knew it was already going to be rough for qualifying and the races. Qualifying started and I was feeling good but hot, It was my best qualifying so far this year and I got 3rd so I was well happy with that.
Race 1, I didn’t get the best of starts the bike seemed to bog off the start and I was about 10th around the first corner. I knew I had some work to do so I set to it and by the time the last lap flag was put out it was too late to gain another position so I finished 6th.
Race 2, Off the start someone went into me sending me off line but I managed to stay on even though I lost valuable positions. Finding myself having to work my way through the pack,I battled hard in tricky conditions with the heat and how rough the track had become. I managed to finish in 6th place again even tho my lap times would have placed me higher.
Day two and boy I thought yesterday was hot but it was much hotter today. Race 3, I hit the gate and was 15th on the first lap, another race I had to get my head down. I wasn’t making things easy for myself, just wasn’t myself but I pushed on and finished the race in 8th.
Final race and final group out. I didn’t think my starts could get any worse but it did. Stalled the bike off the start then struggled to re-start it by the time I got around the first corner I was last by half a lap. I had a lot of work to do and I was determined to do whatever I could in the time I had but the heat was not helping. I kept on pushing and finished 11th I was not happy at all but at least I finished. I was so frustrated with myself as I know my starts just fell apart but we keep working and pushing. On the plus side I managed to gain some valuable championship points now only 3 points off of 3rd place.
