Hawkstone Debut: Jesse James Takes on an Icon of British Motocross at Round Two of the NORA92 British Cup

Hawkstone Park delivered everything it’s famous for this weekend deep, demanding sand, brutal conditions, and a stacked gate full of talented riders all battling for every position. From the first laps of practice, it was clear the bike setup needed some attention.

The deep sand and rough, choppy surface were unlike anything I’d ridden recently, so adjustments were made to the suspension throughout the day to find a better balance and improve comfort and control around the circuit. Each change helped me build confidence as the track got faster and rutty. The concrete starts made every launch crucial, especially with such a competitive class packed with fast riders. Getting off the gate and into a good position was vital as the racing was intense from start to finish.

One of the motos was interrupted by an unexpected mechanical issue when the spark plug cap worked loose during the race. The bike began to misfire and lose power, making it difficult to maintain pace and costing valuable positions against such a strong field. Unfortunately, the tough Hawkstone sand continued to take its toll on the machine. After battling through the rough conditions and deep ruts, the clutch finally gave up late in the meeting, bringing the day’s racing to an early end.

Despite the setback, there were plenty of positives to take away. The pace improved with every outing, and the suspension changes helped the bike handle the demanding conditions much better as the day progressed.

The final results don’t fully reflect the effort put in throughout the weekend, but racing against a stacked class on one of the UK’s most iconic motocross tracks provided valuable experience. There was good speed, plenty of determination, and lots learned despite the mechanical setbacks.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped, supported, and worked hard behind the scenes. We’ll get the bike repaired, take what we’ve learned, and come back stronger at the next event.
