Against the Odds: Ronnie Morgan Battles to Sixth at Sherwood

This weekend it was the third round of the NORA92 British Cup Championship at Sherwood. The team setup was amazing once again giving us the best platform to show what we can do. It was also my 12th birthday so I was looking forward to celebrating with my team.

The last time I was at Sherwood I was in my first year on a 65cc and the track was the other way around. Early Saturday morning it was time for a team track walk with our Coach Joe and the track was looking in good condition but we knew how quickly the track could develop in the deep sand. Before Qualifying I was feeling good but also a bit nervous but that soon went after a couple of laps. Qualifying was going well but I definitely had more to give but my bike started to develop a clutch issue so in the end I qualified 7th which was ok.

Just before the first race my clutch had totally gone but luckily a friend of mine Jake Bryant lent me his spare bike which I was really grateful for. There wasn’t anytime to make any adjustments so it was a case of jump on it and do what I could. I finished 11th in this race.

Race 2 and my bike was still being worked on everyone was trying there best to get it done but more time was needed so out I went on my friends bike again. We made a couple of adjustments but my starts were not up to my normal standards and that was costing me valuable positions. The track had gotten really rough and tough and I was having to push even harder while having some good battles and pushing my way through boy my arms were really feeling it but I managed to finish in 8th. The Atmosphere in our camp and around the NORA92 setup was really lively and good. It was time to get the birthday celebration under way and my team manager Gemma had made me a lovely cake. Thank You!

Sunday I was back on my bike (yay) , it was a lot hotter of a day so keeping up with fluids was even more important. Race 1 my start was not as good again which I was annoyed about but I got my head down pushing hard making some great passes. I was feeling more comfortable which was making the jumps and bumps a lot easier. I finished this race in 8th place but I was very close to 7th and 6th.

Final race of the weekend and I changed my gate choice again and it was my best start of the weekend top 10 around the first corner. With the heat and how tough the track was it was making thing more challenging. It took me awhile to get passed 7th place and I had my sights set on 5th which I could see i was gaining on but I was suffering with my arms and running out of time so was unable to gain another position. My results for the weekend was 11,8,8 and 6th giving my 6th overall.
