This weekend I headed up to Hazley Grange track to race AMCA. The last time I raced at Hazley Grange was when I raced in the Auto class. I was unsure of the track as I couldn’t actually remember it! Race day was Sunday only.
I arrived on Sunday morning with enough time to walk the track. I walked the track and got familiar with it, sussing out the corners, the ruts and the jumps.
Qualifying – I went out and qualified 3rd.
Race 1 – I came out of the gate and was in 6th position by the time I got to the first corner. I found the track tight, so there were only a few places for passing. By the second lap, I managed to get into 1st place and stayed there until the end of the race.
Race 2 – Better start! I came out of the gate in 4th. I managed to pass 3rd, 2nd and 1st by lap 2. The track conditions were good. I found it smooth, with only a few places that were rough. I finished 1st.
Race 3 – I came out of the gate in 4th again! I got into 3rd by the first lap. At the start of the second lap, I made a corner pass for 1st and 2nd by taking the outside line. I kept pushing and finished in 1st place, with a 3-second faster lap than 2nd place.
I am really pleased with myself, coming away with three 1st-place finishes and finishing 1st overall.
I’m hoping this will give me a confidence boost for my next race at Gossington track.
