Fred Dominates at Swanmore for Overall Honours with Hampshire Youth MXC

This weekend we headed to a new track that I have never rode before, with Hampshire that I have also never rode with, all new experiences… but was excited for the challenge. As soon as I got to the track I took a good look at the track and walked it sussing out the jumps and lines that will be challenging, then it was time to head out for practice.

It was surprisingly warm and the sun was beaming down, it was a 10 minute qualifying and I started out front. Starting steadily but still with speed as they had just watered the track. I felt good and had one little tumble but it ode comfortable setting the 2nd fastest lap time.

Race 1 – Out the gate and shot up the hill and was second around the corner, I had first in my sight and I wasn’t going to let him get away, a few laps in I was gaining on him, and on a tight left hand corner I took him to take the lead, leaving a gap by the end of the race and taking the chequered flag.

Race 2 – Jumped out the gate but my bike flew up with me, giving me not the best start but still sitting in 3rd, I knew I had it in the tank and took the risk to pass 2nd place, then I had I had P1 in sight again, gaining on him, adding pressure. I flew up the hill and was right behind him and took him on the top corner, taking the lead again. The rest of the race I stayed consistent and finished with another p1 in the bag.

Race 3 – After a little pep talk from dad and him reminding me what coach Joe Clayton had taught me about my starts. I was ready and eager to go. With that holeshot in sight.. gates dropped and I flew out, getting that holeshot that I was fighting for! I lead the race and stayed in front the whole of the race, keeping my lap times consistent and enjoying the ride. Crossing the line P1 and taking 1st overall for the day.

It was a great day and I’m really pleased with how my riding went, the track was prepped great and the race meet ran really well and smoothly.
