Foxhill Finale! Theo Brown Takes on the ACU MXGB Youth Championship Showdown

Last weekend I headed to Foxhill Moto Park for the final round of the MXGB Youth in the MXY2 class. It was a tough start but the weekend finished really strong so I was very happy with the weekend overall.

QUALIFYING – I’d never rode the track before so I went out getting used to the track and the jumps. I hit most of them immediately, apart from 2 of the triples. The track was wet, and I came away with P34 in Qualifying. I wasn’t too disappointed, but knew I had a long way to go yet.

MOTO 1 – I got off to a decent start, but dropped down to P32 by lap 2. I managed to hit one of the triples for the first time and gained a little confidence, However a small mechanical retired me on lap 5, meaning it was a DNF.

MOTO 2 – I had a not so great start in moto 2, coming round in P32. However, I was a lot more confident with the track, and pushed. I quickly made moves, putting myself into P28 by lap 7. The track was technical, but I found some good lines and kept progressing, making my way into P25 too finish the race. After Saturday I felt a lot more comfortable and confident, and I was excited to keep progressing on Sunday. I went out third for the sighting lap so the faster riders would drag me along, and it definitely worked.

MOTO 3 – I came off the start already in P24, better. I could see a huge group up ahead so I really pushed, moving forward by the lap. Racing against the 250s was hard, but still very possible to overtake, and with some smart decisions I made my way into P19 on lap 12, my best finish yet.

MOTO 4 – I came off the start well in this race, putting myself P19 off the bat. I was finally surrounded by the riders I should’ve been, and with that hit a jump that I hadn’t all weekend, which i was very happy with. I now felt way more confident, and with this I pushed as hard as possible and made some moves. I found myself on the verge of the top 15 on lap 10, battling with 250s. However my hill speed was unmatchable, and I passed them both, moving into P14 on the final lap. I pushed hard to overtake P13, but came just short. I was over the moon with the progression I made this weekend, Moving up the rankings 20 places isn’t easy physically or mentally, but we did it thanks to some fitness and determination. Bring on Weston!
