Wednesday 25th June saw the opening round of the new midweek race series at Monster Mountain take place. With all three riders competing at the event and sprint race format, something the riders aren’t use to. All eyes were on the team for their first round.
Competing in the Small Wheel 85cc class was #128 Reuben McNally who after two practice sessions, timed qualifying and two heat races walked away with a seventh place trophy.
Here is how the day/evening went from Reuben’s perspective:
We headed down to Monster Mountain for the first round of the Monster Masters and what can I say! What a night! Some amazing racing. The day started with 2 practice sessions and then the qualifying during the day, all building up to 2 sprint races in the evening.
Practice – The track was great, I felt good but just taking it all in hoping to improve on previous lap times.
Qualifying – The time had came round and I set off for qualifying. I felt confident I could get a good lap time but this very quickly changed when I dropped the bike. I lost the front end heading too fast into a tight corner. I got back on but this cost me so much time and didn’t manage to set a good time.
Heat 1 – The gate dropped and I got a great start but there were some fast riders. I lost some places and kept pushing and racing hard and managed 7th.
Heat 2 – I felt good going into this race. I was hoping to improve on the last but I didn’t quite get out of the gate as quick as I could have but I still stayed with the group. I was in 7th and was pushing hard to get past a BW85cc. I took the wrong line and found myself in the mud. I got back on as quick as I could but I lost a place and finish 8th.
I got 7th overall in the 85SW class and I am looking forward to round 2 it was a great event and cannot wait to go back.
