Podium Pie at the Monster Masters for Rafe Symons

Round 2 of the Monster Mountain MX Series did not disappoint. The midweek race series is proving ever popular with both the amateur and professional riders.

The all day event consists of 2 practice sessions, a qualifying session and 2 evening races, which consisted of 10 minute sprint races.

Read how the day/evening went for Rafe below.

Having tied on points at the last round for first place, Rafe was keen to bring home the overall win. If he could stay on the bike, winning was a real possibility.

The two practice sessions were used to try different lines and perfect racecraft. Both the Big Wheels (BW) and Small Wheels (SM) competed together, but were scored separately. Rafe was pleased to qualify first in the SW and second overall giving him a great gate pic.

Race 1 – HOLESHOT!!! Rafe scored a well deserved holeshot and led the race for half a lap. Settling into first place (SW) he knew he had to be consistent. Half the job had been done by securing the lead, he just needed to gain some distance and settle into his flow. The laps soon clocked up and it was a welcome sight to see the last lap flag. Just one lap and the race win is yours. Rafe crossed the line in P1.

Race 2 – Another cracking start, saw Rafe follow the BW leader around the first corner and matched his pace for a lap pulling a healthy lead in the SW race. Another nail biting race, could he be consistent…. could he win the overall for the day. Rafe wanted the win so badly, he flowed around the track with ease, enjoying the bike time, eating up the track, carefully passing back markers and crossing the line in P1 to win the overall.

What an amazing ride Rafe – well done!
