Reuben Powers Through Rushwick to Secure 10th Overall

Reuben also made the trip down to Rushwick for the two day meeting with Cotswold Youth & AMX Club. With Saturday being an open trophy day before the all important day on Sunday with Championship points on the line. Read how the weekend went from Reuben’s perspective below.

This weekend we headed to Rushwick for Round 9 of the Cotswolds Youth & AMX Championship. I was looking forward to racing this track as I had been here before with good results. Saturday was a trophy day and I had set my sights on bringing a trophy home. I went out for practice and got a bit too confident and dropped the bike. This resulted in me only getting 1 lap in which I was very disappointed in myself, but I did gain some confidence in knowing the track was great and I could not wait to get started.

Race 1 came and I got a good start. I got a good position into the second corner but I was stuck for a little while behind a BW85cc but managed to pass and managed to get 15th in SW85cc class.

Race 2 came and it was such a hot day. I got a great start out the gate and wow what a start very nearly in the first 3 into the corner. I was in a great position found myself inside the top 20 in the mixed BW85cc/SW85cc I lost a few places but felt good finishing 13th in SW’s.

Race 3 I set out to improve on race 2. I set a few targets and knew where I made a few mistakes I needed to correct. I got another great start and as the race went on I knew I was in a good position. Track had some nice ruts and I felt confident and managed 11th. This gave me 11th overall for the day.

Sunday

After plenty of rest I was ready for Round 9 of the Club Championship. After a look at the track I felt it was going to be a good day I had real confidence in myself.

Race 1 came and while waiting on the line there was a little delay and I removed my goggles forgetting to put them back on. As the 15s board came out I realised and I don’t think I have put them on so fast before! Just made the gate drop but in a panic I didn’t get the best of starts but now having to work and compose myself. I got 11th in SW85cc’s which I was happy with.

Race 2. I wasn’t making the same mistake! Goggles were on and I was ready to go. The gate dropped and I got a great start I pushed on and I managed to hold off a few riders that I could feel were close to get 8th in SW85cc my best result of the weekend.

Race 3 the final race of the weekend and I was determined to make sure I finished strong. The gates dropped and I felt good into the first few corners and found myself in a great position. I kept pushing and I was working my way through the group and I dropped the bike. I managed to get back to it quickly loosing a few places I had work to do. I found myself picking back the places I had lost and was in a good position when I saw the next bike and set a target to pass the rider. I tried to go up the inside which left me on a rough part of the track and lost the front end causing me to loose a few places and the race was over and I crossed the line in 10th.

It was a great weekend and I took 10th overall on the Sunday.
