Rushwick for Reuben McNally

Last weekend saw Reuben McNally head to Rushwick for Round 1 of the Wilden MXC Winter Series. Reuben was set for a great weekends racing with it being his time onboard his Small Wheel 85cc machine.

Read how the weekend went for Reuben below:

Saturday was an open race day and I was feeling excited to be back. Race 1, 1 managed to get a good start out the gate something I have struggled with and having only ridden 1 lap of the track before the race I felt confident. The track was great and I felt I could push on. I was 18th after lap 1 and felt good getting quicker each lap working through managing to finish 12th in my class but 14th BW/SW combined.

Race 2 was here and I got another good start and felt better. Got halfway around the track and I got clipped on the corner, my bike was hit by another rider which snapped my front fender. I got back on but struggled with the fender putting me off and I crashed again resulting with a DNF.

Race 3 we were back! Dad temporarily fixed the fender with some tape and cable ties. Started well working my way through the group. I was in 19th on lap 1 and worked my way to 14th, 13th in my class 85SW. I felt really good and glad to be back racing, now could not wait for the first round of the Winter Championship starting Sunday.

We arrived at the track Sunday and with the rain over night plus the forecast of rain I was a little unsure, but walked the track and it looked great I was looking forward to it.

Race 1 came but so did the rain and it did rain! Lost the front on the second corner of lap 1 and struggled to get my footing to get the bike back up and lost a lot of time. I managed to get back on and I pushed the best I could feeling a little nervous as i’d not ridden in conditions like this for over a year and certainly not on my 85cc. Working hard I managed to finish 14th.

Race 2, the rain had not stopped and track was very slippy, I got out the gate and felt ok but the second corner hit again and I was stuck in with 5 bikes all trying to get back up. The track was so slippy I couldn’t gain any traction to get going again plus the front fender was also needing attention and decided to end my race.

Race 3 the rain had not stopped and the track conditions were getting worse. I decided not to race as my confidence was knocked and with the rain still coming it was only going to get worse.

I was glad to be back and I cannot wait for round 2 on the 6th October at Wolverley.
